“My Photographer Canceled!”

Nothing is more terrifying than planning a wedding for months, or even years, and then having your photographer cancel days before your special day. When Alex called me on Tuesday, October 12, to inquire about my packages, I was not expecting the wedding to be on Saturday October 16th!

She began to explain to me that the photographer she originally booked had to cancel. Luckily for her, I was only planning on catching up with photos from past shoots that Saturday. The decision was a no-brainer for me; I had to do the shoot.

She booked me for the full day, and the wedding venue was at At The Old School in St. Martinville, LA. This venue was new to me, and I wasn’t able to get a walk-through to find the more flattering places to shoot. But, I did what I would normally do for any other session: I arrived, met the coordinator, and immediately began shooting the bridesmaids and groomsmen. I went about shooting it as I would any other wedding, even though I was not a part of any of the planning.

I was able to get breaks and speak with some friends of the bride who knew how the wedding was going to proceed. At this point, I still hadn’t even met her. When she arrived, I didn’t bother her with questions. I introduced myself, assured her that she was in good hands, and got back to work.

The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was a blast! By the way everyone was celebrating, you would have never known that a few things didn’t go as planned. That’s the thing about this job, though. My goal as a photographer is to make people feel comfortable and beautiful in front of the camera no matter what is going on. I have no doubt that Alex and Anthony will look back on this special day and cherish every memory.
